Success Story | South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) Seamless Information Sharing and Integration Across Multiple Platforms Using ProjectWise

South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT)

Project

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) currently manages 6,341 projects and 1,823 contracts through all phases of the project lifecycle. With this vast amount of information, SCDOT found that its engineering information was often not synchronized, leading to differing information across multiple platforms and time-consuming, error-prone workflows. Without the ability to implement automation or customizations, SCDOT struggled to collect and share reliable information with stakeholders. The agency needed to integrate disparate data and document applications so that it could support and manage common business processes, data, and document sharing across systems.

Solution

SCDOT chose to implement a connected data environment and selected ProjectWise as its platform. The connected data environment provided the solution for gathering all sources of information, serving as a reliable and secure hub for information sharing and integration. Once ProjectWise was implemented, SCDOT began integrating the various engineering departments so that multiple engineering offices could interact with the system. Now, the team had a single location where it could access and share information, knowing that it was always up to date.

Outcome

Since implementing ProjectWise in 2013, SCDOT has achieved workflow efficiencies, increased productivity, improved accuracy, and saved on technology costs. ProjectWise streamlined consultant selection and scoring, enabling the agency to process many times the number of contracts. Having a central information hub expedites project delivery by saving time searching for information stored in multiple applications. It has also reduced costs associated with maintaining multiple applications. An additional benefit is that since implementing ProjectWise, over 1 million documents have been electronically stored rather than printed, saving 7.5 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

Software

ProjectWise provided a platform where the team could house all its data in a connected data environment, serving as a single source of truth for all information. The application has improved information accuracy, enabling more-informed decisions while still streamlining decision-making.

Facts

  • The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) currently manages 6,341 projects and 1,823 contracts through all phases of the project lifecycle, needing a connected data environment for better information management.
