On this INR 5 billion project, Larsen & Toubro Hydrocarbon Engineering Limited, Engineering Services–Thermal & Cryogenic Systems executed the detail engineering of a reformer package for the hydrogen generation unit (HGU) of the GGSR refinery in Bathinda, India. The HGU comprised two parallel trains with common pre-desulphurization sections and a common pressure swing absorption unit designed for 88,000 tons per year of 99.9 percent pure hydrogen.
The complexity of the project proved to be a major challenge, but ultimately helped enhance the team’s ability to handle critical projects and provide specialization in various areas. With its embedded rendering engine, MicroStation provided 3D visualization and Bentley Navigator enabled streamlined model reviews. PlantWAVE for PDS and STAAD helped the team eliminate redundant work, which saved resource hours and reduced project costs.
