Morocco Noor II 200 MW Parabolic Trough Solar Thermal

Project

Located in the Noor Solar Thermal Power Park, the Morocco Noor II is the second phase of a three-phased project that culminates with the installation of a 510-megawatt solar thermal power plant, set to be the worldā€™s single largest solar power production facility. Qingdao Hongrui Electric Power Engineering Consulting was retained to model, analyze, and provide civil engineering and conventional design for the 200-megawatt plant. The newly constructed, advanced solar thermal power plant will help alleviate Moroccoā€™s limited electricity supply.

Solution

The project team used STAAD to quickly model the plant, perform load analysis on irregular structures, and deliver the plant design within the required construction period. Using Bentley software reduced design time by 200 hours, saved more than CNY 1 million in material costs, and achieved design safety and efficiency.

This project was a nominee in the Structural Engineering category of the 2018 Year in Infrastructure Awards, now known as the Going Digital Awards in Infrastructure.
