Railway Bridge on Avenida Sarmiento

As part of an initiative to conduct a complete study of the structural integrity of a 100-year-old railway bridge crossing a high-traffic avenue in Buenos Aires, ARQ-CHIA was contracted to model the bridge, perform structural analysis, and recommend a solution to prolong the useful life of the bridge. Rather than use traditional approximate design methodologies, the company utilized Bentley’s comprehensive engineering application to meet client deliverables.

ARQ-CHIA used RAM Elements for bridge modeling and subsequent static and dynamic analysis. The team accurately simulated the behavior of the structure by using the application, reducing uncertainties related to structural integrity. RAM’s automated features accelerated design and analysis and enabled the restoration of the century-old bridge to a safe operating condition in compliance with current regulations. The bridge’s restoration prevented the installment of unnecessary reinforcements or a full bridge replacement.
