Using Photogrammetry to Preserve our Maritime History

Many parts of the world have a rich maritime history. Tasmania, the island state of Australia, is no exception.

Dr. Dougal Harris, Naval Architect and Software Engineer at Bentley Systems, worked with the Tasmanian Maritime Museum to develop a process for digitally recording historically significant vessels. Combining low cost, easy to use hardware, and photogrammetric software enables digital preservation and production of a 3D model, and lines plans of the vessels for future reference.

This article by Dr. Harris describes how Bentley’s Naval Architecture software and ContextCapture are used to create the process to preserve maritime history.
